(08) The Gaffer
Joseph Fox grew up in the UK on Arsenal, terrace chants and proper pub food. He came to Vermont in 2017, played college soccer here, spent sixteen years in kitchens and behind bars, and kept noticing the same gap: a state full of soccer fans with nowhere that felt like home on a Saturday morning.
The Slide In opened on 28 March 2026 in a room that had sat empty since 2021, next door to the Soccer Post. It bills itself as Vermont's first-ever soccer bar — and by June, when England were playing, it was the loudest room in the state.
“This is something Shelburne and Burlington were needing.”
“The room might have had the highest concentration of English accents in the state — roughly 50 fans around the bar, jerseys on, sliders in hand.”
“Serving up slide tackles and sliders. Owner Joseph Fox wanted to bring together the state's growing soccer community.”
“High-quality pub food, a full lineup of drinks, and the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to stay awhile.”
